Tour of Shida Kartli
This excursion can be called a natural and historical one, as it covers the ancient cave town Uplistsikhe and one of the least explored canyons of Georgia, the Tedzamskoe, in the depths of which is the ancient monastery complex Rkoni with the arch bridge of the Tsarina Tamar. Traveling to Rconi also combines the element of the track, which gives it extra beauty. Departure from Tbilisi at 9.00 Uplistsikhe - we reach it on the Armazi highway. Usually it takes an hour to inspect the cave city. Not far from the entrance is the Archaeological Museum, which has many ancient exhibits. Rconi - you can get here by a single dirt road, the length of which is 25 kilometers. On the way, we pass by two historical temples - Ertatsminda and Chachubeti. From the end point of the highway to the Rkonsky monastery about 1 km. This path can only be taken on foot. In addition to the Rcon monastery and the arch bridge, you can climb the high hill, where the tower of St. Simeon Stylites is located. If you wish, you can walk to the other side of the gorge to the inaccessible Ikvi temple. It takes about 20 minutes. The total length of the excursion route is 120 km.
Notes: It is worth taking into account that after Chachubet, mobile communication ceases to work. The minimum supply of food on the road also does not hurt - the terrain in a radius of several kilometers from Rkoni is deaf and there will be nowhere to buy food. Water is much better - there are several sources.
